St Margaret Mary's Randwick North STEM Outreach excursion - AerodynamicsGirls in Years 4 and 5 were fortunate to be guests of the Royal Aeronautical Society at QANTAS. Our girls participated in a number of activities and experiences designed to excite and inspire, and to introduce them to the professional world of aviation and space.  There were four activities including:

  • Students used Flight Radar 24 app to view real flight time tracking of planes and search for different aircraft, find airports around the world and observe heavy corridors of traffic between Sydney to Melbourne
  • A ground inspection of the A380 airplane and a complete tour inside the aircraft led by an engineer.
  • Build an engine – following a lesson on jet engines led by UNSW lecturers the girls built an engine using parts produced by a 3D printer.
  • A USYD Rocketry – led by students from Sydney University’s winning team at the Spaceport America Cup, the girls completed a challenge to build a rocket and design a rocket to carry a load and break into three pieces.
