RANDWICK NORTH, NSW — At St Margaret Mary’s, sport is about much more than winning medals or crossing the finish line first. The school is committed to fostering a culture where every student is encouraged to participate, challenge themselves and achieve their personal best, regardless of their ability level.
This commitment is reflected in the achievements of students such as Francesa R and Sofia L, who have embraced every opportunity provided through the school’s sporting programs and representative pathways.
Year 6 student Francesa, affectionately known as ‘Frenchie’, has become one of the school’s most accomplished athletes, representing St Margaret Mary’s in swimming, athletics, Oztag and cross-country events. Through the encouragement of teachers, coaches and her peers, she has developed the confidence and discipline required to compete at increasingly higher levels.

Sofia has also flourished through the school’s inclusive approach to sport. As a talented all-abilities athlete, she has proudly represented the school in running events, recently achieving outstanding results in cross-country and qualifying for the Sydney Catholic Schools MacKillop Team.
Principal Kylie O’Donnell said the school’s focus is on creating opportunities for all students to experience success and develop a lifelong love of physical activity.
“At St Margaret Mary’s, we believe every student deserves the opportunity to participate, grow and achieve,” Ms O’Donnell said.

The school actively encourages students to pursue their interests through a broad range of sporting opportunities, while also fostering an environment where students support one another both on and off the field.
This sense of community is evident whenever students represent the school. Frenchie and Sofia are frequently seen encouraging their teammates and classmates from the sidelines, helping to create a positive and supportive atmosphere at every event.
“We are all nervous when we are racing, so I think that if I help by cheering others on, when I need help, people will cheer for me,” Sofia said.
Frenchie agrees. “It can be hard when you’re racing, but when you hear people cheering for you, it really helps you push through.”
